Here are the top stories in Oak Park-River Forest today:

1. Fifty-four Oak Park residents tested positive for COVID-19 this week. Cases range in age from younger than four to older than 80, the Oak Park Department of Public Health announced. (VOP)

2. The OPRF High School board passed a $107 million budget for the 2022 fiscal year, Pioneer Press reports. District 200 was awarded about $2 million in federal COVID-19 relief grants; about 80 percent of revenue comes from property taxes. (Paid source: Oak Leaves)

3. The Village Board voted this month to devote more resources to rat control. Oak Park saw a higher-than-normal rate of rodent activity in the area this year. Public Health Director Theresa Chapple-McGruder said the health department is “alerting neighbors when the vermin have been spotted near their homes.” (Wednesday Journal)

4. Oak Park native and renowned Baltimore artist John D. Ferguson died this week at age 81. The Fenwick alum “found his love for the works of architect Frank Lloyd Wright and writer Ernest Hemingway” during his years in Oak Park. (Baltimore Sun)

5. Today marks the unofficial beginning of “Spooky Season,” with the Hemingway Birthplace and Oak Park River Forest museums making plans to celebrate Halloween throughout the month.
